Jim Corbett National Park - Dhikala, Ramnagar, Nainital, Uttaranchal

Jim Corbett National Park is located at Dhikala, Ramnagar, Nainital, Uttaranchal and is spread in aprox. 521 sq. km area in two districts Nainital and Pauri of Uttaranchal. It was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park and later renamed as Jim Corbett National Park in the name of famous British hunter, conservationist, author and naturalist Edward James "Jim" Corbett. He is very much known for hunting a large number of man-eating Bengal Tigers and leopards in India. Edward James Corbett was born on 25th July, 1875 in Nainital, India and he died on 19th April, 1955 in Nyeri, Kenya.

Corbett has always been popular among wildlife enthusiast and tourist for it's beautiful landscapes, rivers and diverse wildlife population available. In recent years in-flow of tourists has increased in this National Park and aproximately 75000 tourist visit Corbett every year from different parts of India and around the world.

Best time to visit Jim Corbett National Park is between 15th November - 15th February as during this period roads are always in good condition and weather is very soothing except for a short duration between 15th of December to 15th of January when it's very cold and days are very small. (Best time to visit is recommended by Discovery of India team based on the past experiences)

Corbett National Park remains open for visitors from 15th November to 15th June every year. In June and July there are usually heavy rains in this area and most of the roads and paths are washed away due to rains and hence Park remain closed till 15th of November as administration has to restore all the roads and prepare motorable paths in the area to enable tourists to visit their beloved sanctuary and have a wonderful time and memorable experience.

To reach Jim corbett national park tourists need to reach Ramnagar, which headquarters Corbett Tiger Reserve. Ramnager is very well connected with important places through road and rail.
By Road: Ramnagar is connected by road to Delhi, Moradabad, Bareilly and Naintial. State transport buses ply regularly from Delhi, Moradabad, Haldwani to Ramnagar. The approach routes are:

• Delhi-Gajrola-Moradabad-Kashipur-Ramnagar (240 km)
• Bareilly-Kichha-Haldwani-Ramnagar (160 km)

By Rail: A direct train to Ramnagar runs from New Delhi. Alternatively, one can come upto Haldwani/Kashipur/Kathgodam and come to Ramnagar by road.

Corbett National Park has been divided into five exclusive tourism zones for the convenience of tourist. Dividing it into five seperate zones helps in better management and streamlining management of tourism in the area. All the zones have seperate entry gates:
